Below, you can find all steps necessary to apply, as well as the calendar on which you must perform each of the activities. Please note that the calendar is subject to change by Admissions and Registrars Office. 


Application for admission

You must fill out and print an online application form within the time-frame specified. 

 The admission process for the second half of 2019 (2019-20) can be made between February 18th and May 20th 2019.


You must make the payment of registration fees ($210.000) “two hundred ten thousand pesos”. Below, you can find a pay button for each program.

In this link, you must select the mode for admission (The GRE revised General Test or Uniandes Test).

 Print the payment voucher. 

The admission process for the second half of 2019 (2019-20) can be made between February 18th and May 20th 2019.


 You should have the following documents: 

 An authenticated photocopy of the original diploma (undergraduate degree).

 Curriculum vitae.

 Print the application form that you sent via the web.

 Official transcript of your university studies with original signatures and authentic stamps or with an authenticated signature.

 Proof of payment of the registration fee.

Photocopy of the identity card.

 Two recent photographs on white background, (3X4 cm).

Two letters of recommendation (format 1: DOCX ) accompanied by a written consent of the applicant (format 2: DOCX ). These letters of recommendation should preferably be filled by professors, advisors or heads of research projects. Both forms must be submitted in a sealed envelope.

 Statement of purpose for the program that you have chosen and the research area that you want, if applicable.

Note: If the presented information is not complete, the application will be canceled.

Note: Use the checklist ( download DOCX ) as the cover page. This list allows you to validate the completeness of the documentation.

The applicant must submit all documentation in a sealed envelope at the Centro de Atención Integrada (CAI) located at Calle 18A No. 0 – 33 Este, Bloque E, Bogotá, (from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.); you can also send the documents by registered mail in a sealed envelope to the same address.

 The applicant must submit all the documentation before May 20th - 2019.

Returning Documents to admitted

DISC does not return documents of candidates who have been admitted.

Entrance Exam

Entrance Exam

Applicants for Master's programs of the Engineering Faculty must meet one of the following admission requirements:

 Uniandes Test, this test seeks to evaluate mathematical ability, abstract reasoning, and reading comprehension.

You have to take the exam at La universidad de los Andes. Refer to Calendar used for scheduling of test dates. 

International admission: The GRE revised General Test. GRE (Graduate Record Examination). The GRE revised General Test measures your verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills — skills that have been developed over a long period of time and are not related to a specific field of study but are important for all. Attach report of GRE scores.  

 The result of GRE must be maximum two years old.


Language requirement

All graduate students at La Universidad de los Andes, once they are admitted for a Graduate Program. All students will need to demonstrate sufficient level of English, through any of the following alternatives:

 The TOEFL scores (Score / grade validity 2 years). The minimum required score is 213/300 for the computer based exam, and 80/120 for the Internet exam.

 The IELTS score (Score / grade validity 2 years). The minimum required score is an overall band of 6.5.

 The Students who have graduated from an undergraduate program at La Universidad de los Andes.

 The Students who have graduated from an undergraduate degree, master's or doctorate from an English-speaking country. 

PThe Diagnostic exam administered by the Department of Languages and Sociocultural Studies. This Exam classifies Student's English level into three groups:

    • Those who have enough English reading level.
    • Those who only need to take the Reading Workshop II offered by the Department of Languages and sociocultural studies to obtain a sufficient level of English reading.
    • Those who need to take the reading workshops I and II offered by the Department of Languages and sociocultural studies to obtain a sufficient level of English reading.

MBC: Level Test

This test only applies to applicants for the Master of Computational Biology MBC.

Level Test

All applicants for the Master of Computational Biology must take a placement test to assess their knowledge of programming and biology. The results of this test will define whether the applicant must take fundamental informatics for Biological Sciences or Molecular Biology as basic courses.

The placement test consists of two parts:

  • One part that assess the student's ability to solve problems through the use of simple algorithms.
  • One part that assess the student's knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology basic.

This test only applies to applicants for the Master of Computational Biology MBC.

Comments for International Students

If you are coming from outside Colombia, we hereby inform you that Visas are issued by the government of Colombia. Therefore, you must have a valid student visa or other visa that allows you to study, which must be submitted to the Admissions and Registrars Office (ventanillas 2 and/or 3) or you must send a copy to extranjerosuniandes@uniandes.edu.co, in order to fulfill this requirement before printing the tuition bill.  

Although visas are generally issued within a few business days, getting the proper paperwork together for your visa application can take time, so we encourage you to get started as soon as possible  in order to avoid problems associated with the payment and the enrollment process.
